TPS2546: GRL BC1.2 Compliance Failure

Part Number: TPS2546
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2549

Dear Team,

My customer's project is docking application. They used TPS2546 on the downstream Type-A port.

Recently, they got a failure when running GRL BC1.2 Compliance testing. In CDP test, Test J got 21mV on D+ which is higher than the spec range (0~20mV).

We found that there is one similar E2E question in below link that YQ replied before.

https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/f/138/t/629103?TPS2546-TPS2546-USB-certification-issue

If this issue is due to the conflict between Test J and BC1.2 spec. Could we say this is tester issue?

Please help to provide your advice.

Thank you.

Regards,

Jim

  • Hi Jim,

This looks to be the same issue as the one you found in the earlier E2E question. This is a conflict between test-J and the TPS2546 and this is a test issue. Please note that this issue only occurs when a Test J packet is sent on a CDP with a standalone battery charging device(TPS2546 in this case). This is not a real world application and will not have any impact during real application of the TPS2546. If you need to pass this test, please update your device to the TPS2549.

    Regards,

    Emma

  • Hi Emma,

    Thanks for the comment.

If this is tester issue, is it possible to provide a waiver to the lab? The customer has used TPS2546 on their design.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hi Jim,

This is not a tester issue but an issue with the test itself. The test conflicts with the TPS2546 in the manner described above. If you need to pass this test, please consider switching to the TPS2549.

    Regards,

    Emma
