LM25180: galvanically decoupled dual isolated output?

Part Number: LM25180
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5180EVM-DUAL, LM5180

Team,

Could you please help with the below question:

1) LM25180 datasheet section 9.2.2 and 9.2.3 show two dual output example with galvanically coupled output voltage. We need two galvanically decoupled output voltages.
How do you advise to implement it?
Would there be some voltage control inaccuracy issue under this scenario?

Do you have some design tips or best practices for optimizing the efficiency?

 2) LM25180 datasheet section 8.3.7 External Bias Supply show an Auxiliary winding:
Is the auxilary winding a must or are there alternative options?

3) LM5180EVM-DUAL :
The LM5180 EVMs are shown at the LM25180 page. I assume that the LM5180 can be un-soldered and replaced by a LM21580.
Or are there some additional changes needed?

There is a Coilcraft/Wurth transformer on the board with the below specs (that seems to be specified for LM5180 according to the coicraft page):

Are you aware of some other LM5180/LM25180 "Taylor made" Transformer that would enable different output voltages/power like 15V/200mA and 21V/20mA?

Thanks in advance!

A.

  • Hello

    1. You can separate the two supplies on the output; they don't need a common ground.

The regulation should be the same whether the secondary grounds are connected or not.

    2. The bias supply winding is only optional

    3. The LM2518 and the LM5180 have the same pin-out.  Only the voltage rating is different.

    4. You should find other transformers mentioned in the data sheet.  Or browse the inductor vendor websites.

    Thanks
