BQ78350-R1A: what's the impact of a device reset (disconnected/reconnected to the battery pack)

Dear team,

Sorry I am sure this has been covered already in datasheet/urer's guides/e2e, but could you let me know what would be system impact of resetting the gauge ? (for example in case of battery disconnection)

Is everything stored in RAM or is there some kind of data retention ?

Thank you!

Best regards,

PA

  • Hi PA,

If the gauge is reset, the data stored in registers will also be reset. This primarily impacts the SOC and Remaining Capacity. The BQ78350 uses the ChemID after a reset to estimate the Remaining Capacity and SOC based on the cell voltages. This is the only time the ChemID is used - for estimating the initial capacity until charging/discharging is performed.

Some things are stored in data flash. For example, the Learned FCC parameter is stored in flash. So the gauge does not lose the knowledge of the total capacity it has learned over time. Another example is Lifetime data which is stored in flash.

    Best regards,

    Matt
