TPS2595: Latch by current limit

Part Number: TPS2595
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS24772, TPS25944L

Hello team,

Let me confirm, a latch off version of TPS2595 can shut down the output by thermal after continuing over current when an abnormal short event occur, is that correct?
If yes, is there an alternative devices which can break the output before heating up the thermal and has similar spec range to TPS2595?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi S.Sawamoto,

Yes you are right. During overcurrent ,TPS2595 limits the current due to which output voltage falls and power dissipation increases inside the device causing thermal shutdown. eFuse (have internal fet )TPS25944L  can be a suitable alternative having circuit breaker response to hot short. Hotswap controller(need to use exernal fet) TPS24772  can also be used .

Why circuit breaker response is needed because retry in current limit after short circuit helps to avoid system latch-off for false transient overloads ?
