TPS25982: Start-uo fail due to inrush current

Part Number: TPS25982

Hello,
we are using TPS259827LNRGE as an active fuse for the 24V system using up to 15A. System powers up to15 LED devices that have 47uF capacitor each with buck-converters that are set to start set at 7 volts. When the converter starts it powers system that have over 47uF capacitors. We are unable to configure the device to start. Various configurations were tested, with different/without dvdt capacitors and with different Itimer capacitors.

This figure shows the inrush current, which was measure with 5mOhm resistance. In that figure max current is 60A in peak, but usually it fits between 50-70A.

This figure shows current flow with e-Fuse. After reaching value about 30A (2.1xIlim), device start to generate those oscillations.

Is it possible to use this e-fuse for that application?

We have managed to power-up the system with externat P-MOSFET acting as a inrush current limiter

  • Hi Tomasz,

    Welcome to E2E!

Can you share schematic, system block diagram to understand better.

Also please help with startup test waveform (Vin, Vout, Input current) in a single scope shot.

    Best Regards, Rakesh
