Hi,

I'm looking for a fuel gauge for my system to act similar to what bq27541-G2 does for 1S battery packs, is BQ28Z610-R1 the best option?

I'm not sure I will use the protection features/balancing, so I was looking for a simpler implementation.

Hello,

The bq28z610-r1 or bq78z100 would be the best option, if you want to have only gauging the bq34z100 is what we can recommend, but using the bq28z610 will give you more flexibility if you want to use cell balancing or protections.

Hmm, ok, I think we will go with bq28z610 then, is there any application note of using it for gauging purposes only?

and a recommended circuit/layout?

Hello,

You can leave any output pins floating (CHG, DSG) and disable all the protections in the data memory.

Hi,

so, something like this would work? Should I add any decoupling capacitors or ground any unused pin?

We would be using this in a system, not pack configuration.

Hello,

You will still need to connect the cells to VC1 and VC2 even without cell balancing. Check the EVM user guide for connection examples.

Ok, is this correct? I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything or leaving unnecessary components in this circuit. I'm not sure about what D1 and R11 are there for, and R14, R16, C9 and C10 as well (labels from the evm schematic).
