BQ40Z80: AOLD Detection

Part Number: BQ40Z80

Hi TI Team,

I have a discharge profile that each period is 167ms and has 10A for 20ms, 2A for 20ms, 35A for 10ms and 0A for the rest time of each period.

So for that profile, if I set AOLD to 8.3A/31ms and ASCD to 44.4A/244us, theoretically, my profile should not trip either AOLD or ASCD. But if the current measurement frequency in 40z80 is not high enough, for example, every time it measures on 10A and 35A but skips 2A, that means current above 8.3A can last >40ms. If this is the case, AOLD will trip to stop the discharge.

So my question is, what is the current measurement frequency? Should I worry about above situation that may stop my profile?

Thanks,

Zhihan

  • Hello Zhihan,

Our gauges use sigma-delta ADCs because they are low power and good at charge accumulation. The measurement isn't taken at one time instant it is measured over a period of time using over-sampling.

This test should not set the AOLD.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
