TPS65217: AM335x will reboot when do power off action

Part Number: TPS65217

Hi Expert,

AM335x will reboot when do power off action if device without battery only ac-in.

Could you help me to debug this issue?

Thanks

Daniel

  • Hi Daniel,

I have assigned your post to our expert for this device. Please excuse a delay in response due to the holidays. Our expert will get back to you as soon as they can.

    Thanks,

    Gerard

  • Daniel,

Are you using both AC and USB inputs with no battery connected? The TPS65217 datasheet advises against this configuration of the device.

Either way, the PMIC should enter the SLEEP or OFF (or PRE-OFF) state when PWR_EN signal is set low. The PMIC should not return to the active state unless there is a wake-up event: AC applied, USB applied, or PB_IN push-button press will return to the WAIT PWR_EN state as shown in Figure 24. Global State Diagram on page 39 of the datasheet. These are the only wakeup events available if OFF=1b when PWR_EN is set low. If the OFF bit is set to 0b, the SLEEP state is entered. In this case, PWR_EN set high or SEQUP bit = 1b are also valid wake-up events.

If this logic is not working as expected, please provide oscilloscope captures which show the issue occurring. Unfortunately, the root cause of the issue could be the incorrect configuration that is shown in your schematic (AC and USB both connected with no battery).
