TPS2595: Current Spiking

Part Number: TPS2595

Hey Team,

I have a customer that is using the TPS259571 for a battery balancing circuit and they are seeing a pulsed current from 0A - 8.2A in~5us. The waveform below shows the startup and full load current from the batteries into the regulator. The TPS259571 notes a 4A continuous current max rating. Will the high current pulses affect operation?

Thanks for the help!

  • Hi Dajon McGill,

Operating the device beyond recommended rating for extended periods may affect device reliability. This device has a current limiting feature using which the during the overcurrent the current can be limited to a safe level within recommended operating current range.

Can customer share the schematic ,input and output voltage waveforms and where are they probing the current signal? Seeing the schematic will help to see whether they have correctly configured IC.

In the above waveform when is the current being measured , is it during the startup or during steady state?

    Please help with above questions.

  • Hey Kunal,

    I will reach out internally.

    Thanks!
