TLV760: Can TLV76012 works in a longtime 'on-off-on-off......' mode?

Part Number: TLV760

Hi team,

My customer is developing TLV76012 to convert 15V to 12V. They have below question:

1. They want to make TLV76012 works in a mode of 400us ON, 800us OFF, 400us ON, 800us OFF.... and this working mode needs to be always kept during the product's whole life cycle. So do you think if our LDO has any risk when it works in a long time high frequency 'on-off-on-off......' mode?

2. When TLV76012 is powered up, customer needs the output voltage rises to 12V within 5us. According to our datasheet, the Cout needs to be at least 0.1uF. So do you think  TLV76012 12V output can realize  5us rising time based on 0.1uF output cap?

Thanks.

Best regards,

Wayne

  • Hi Wayne,

    - As long as you don't have a huge output that could potentially put the device into current limit/thermal shutdown during the startup, this type of startup/power-down should have little impact on the reliablity.

    2. When TLV76012 is powered up, customer needs the output voltage rises to 12V within 5us. According to our datasheet, the Cout needs to be at least 0.1uF. So do you think  TLV76012 12V output can realize  5us rising time based on 0.1uF output cap?

--5us for the 12V output, the slew rate is 2.4V/us.  Using c = q / V = Ixt / V, so the I = cxV / t = 0.1u x 12 / 5u = 0.24A. Considering the current is ramping up, and to finish the 12V ramping up in 5us, you need to have 250mA DC current which is not possible for this part to achieve. The 0.1uF is needed for stability and we will need to have it.
