EV2400: EV2400 is damaged

Part Number: EV2400
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350-R1, BQ76930

Hi,

We have two pcs of EV2400 interface. One of them has been used in our R&D department for 3 years. Other one has been used for only 1-month. Both are damaged today. And some measurements are noted below.

TP1 : 4.3V

TP2: 0V

TP3: 0V

TP4: GND

U9 and U10 are damaged.

We are using this device for SMBus monitoring. My BMS has BQ78350-R1 and BQ76930 AFE ICs.

I will buy new EV2300 Interface one but I am worried that the same thing will happen to it.

Would you please help me find the problem?

Thanks.

Yusuf Kaya

  • Hi Yusuf,

TP3 is the 3.3V regulator output so issue may be there.

The schematic is within the userguide : https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluu446d/sluu446d.pdf

    Best regards,

  • Hi Nick,

Some components are damaged and it is available to see the damages of the two component's surface. We will replace the damaged components with new ones. However, The MSP430 MCU is also supplied by 3.3V regulator.

In this case, may the MSP430 MCU be damaged also?

    regards,

    Yusuf

  • Hi Yusuf,

    It is possible yes.

    Best regards,

  • Hi, Nick,

    1) If i replace the damaged MSP430 with new one, is it available to find the firmware of the MSP430 for EV2400? I have a programmer device for the MSP430. Or, What about the updater software of EV2400 device on the TI web site? Is it used for the programming the MSP430 inside of the EV2400?

    2) Would you please tell me what the reasons of the failure are? Why does the 3.3V regulator damage? The EV2400 Device is supplied by computer USB port.

    3) Can the reason of the failure be on the BMS? Anything we have done on the BMS? Because the same thing happened to two pcs of EV2400 i have.

As you see I am trying to understand root of the failure. I have just placed order for two psc of EV2400 more. But I am worried about the same thing will happen to new ones.

I used EV2300 interfaces from 2007 to 2017 and i had no problem with them. I have used EV2400 for last 3 years. Is The EV2300 is more reliable compared to EV2400 Interface?

I am sorry. I have many questions. But I am worried about our mass production period.

    Best regards,
