BQ25606: DP/DM functional path

Part Number: BQ25606

Hi,

I am planning to use BQ25606 on a battery-powered USB device.

I understood the DP/DM goes to the BQ25606 to allow it to detect the type of charger.

However, DP/DM also needs to go to my application processor for normal USB function when it is connected to a Host.

May I know what is the recommended and proven way to do that? Do we simply connect to both BQ25606 and App processor? Or do we need a USB mux?

Thanks in advance

LK

  • LK,

D+/D- pins are used for USB input current limit detection when VBUS power is plugged in. During the charger input current limit detection process, the host must be able to HIZ D+/D- pins so that D+/D- pins are driven by the charger. If the host is unable to HIZ D+/D- pins, a USB switch is needed to isolate the host and the charger.

    Thanks,

    Ning.

  • Hi Ning,

thanks for the response. So once the charger detection is done, the host can switch its DP/DM from Hi-Z to functional. During this time whatever charger detected will remain correct?

    1. To be more specific, if the charger is detected as CDP. When we switch to USB data, the charger will continue to charge as detected?

    2. What is the amount of time to wait before host can drive DP/DM

  • Hi,

    Yes.

    1. Yes

    2. It depends the adaptor type.

    Thanks,

    Ning.
