TPS7A52: TPS7A5201

Part Number: TPS7A52

Hi,
I have a problem with TPS7A5201 layout.
Schematic is attached. Input voltage is 4.2V and output voltage is set with R13 and R14 to 3.8V.
If layout is not loaded works good, I measure stable 3.8V on output.

But if I add load 500mA, output voltage drops down to stable 3.5V. If I add 1A load output voltage drops to 3.2V .... If I add full load 2A output voltage is 2.5V.
I tried to add larger input capacitors 3x 22uF and output capacitors 3x22uF but the problem remains.

Please help.

Thank you

  • Hi Lorant,

I am thinking that your device might be in thermal shutdown. I cannot be sure without probing all the inputs and outputs.

On a scope, what does your input, output, and current look like?

Is the input stable or does it change with the current?

    Possibilities are:

    - If the output is oscillating, the device may be in thermal shutdown.

    - The current actually being drawn might be higher than what the device is rated for and the device is going into constant current.

    Please let me know.

    Best,

    Juliette
