TPS25924: Layout guideline in parallel using (SLVA836)

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering TPS259241 in parallel referring to the application note(slva836).

They has a question about the layout.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

When TPS26400PEPR is connected in parallel, UVLO, OVP, ILIM resistor and dV/dT capacitor) are used in common.

Is there a recommendation for where to put the parts?

Which device side should those parts be placed on?

Are these parts on one device side?

Are these placed in the middle of each device?

Please let me know if there are any other suggestion regarding pattern design.

    Can I know the max load current in customer application ?

    SLVA836 is an old Application Note when we do not have high current eFuse devices in our portfolio. Now, we have TPS25982 which can be used for 14.7 A current limit. TPS25982 also has more advanced features including programable no. of retries, Programmable timer duration to allow transient load currents. 

    The overall solution size and cost would be less for TPS25982 when compared to the parallel solution with TPS25924.

    I'm sorry for the lack of exlpanation.

    In this case, the customer is considering TPS26400 in parellel and referring to SLVA836.

    They'd like to know where to place the component regarding  UVLO, OVP, ILIM resistor and dV/dT capacitor.

    Are these parts on one device side?

    Are these placed in the middle of each device?

    Could you please advise.

    The parallel configuration of TPS26400 will be similar to TPS2660.

    I have some question, could you please advise.

    Accordig to the document, UVLO, ILIM resistor and dV/dT capacitors are set separately.

    On the other hand, In SLVA836, these components are used in common. 


    (1) Could you please let me know pros and cons.

    (2) When UVLO, ILIM resistor and dV / dT capacitors are set for each device,

    the component variation and circuit characteristics will differ for each device.

    Does this have a bad effect?

    (3) When the parts are used in common,

    the distance between the device and the parts becomes long.

    The circuit characteristics are different because the distance between the component and the device is not constant.

    Is there a negative effect?

    Hi Shinichi,

    Common UVLO, OVP resistive ladder can be used just like SLVA836

    Accordig to the document, dV/dT capacitor C2 is common 

    ILIM resistor has to be separate for TPS2640x and TPS2660x devices. This is the need as per PS2640x and TPS2660x device architecture.

    The components can be placed in equidistant from the eFuse devices.

    There are some question about when UVLO, OVP resistor and dV/dT capacitor use in common.

    ---

    The distance between the component(resistor and capacitor) and the each device.

    In this case, timing may be different.

    Is there a problem.

    Or it should be equal.

    Hi Shinichi,

    Please ensure both devices have uniform ground reference in layout. As these are voltage inputs to the device, there would not be any problem.
