BQ40Z60EVM-578: Noise during data logging

Part Number: BQ40Z60EVM-578
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z60

Hi Team,

A customer enabled the battery capacity LED display in BQ40Z60. However, during data logging the temperature reading got some noise while charging and it also makes the charging current fluctuating. The customer is using T4 as cell temp sensor which is shared with one of the LED. Please refer to the waveform of RSOC and temperature below.

How can we use the LED display and temperature sensor together without interference from each other?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hello Danilo,

Are they using an EVM or their custom board? Can you share their .gg file so we can look at the configuration?

You will need to ensure the LED and TS pin setting are correct to prevent any noise, the gauge can take temperature readings from different TS pins to be used as the reported temperature.

    Check sections:

    6.2.1 IO Config Data Flash

    12.2.8.1 Temperature Enable

    2.9 Temperature Protections

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi Wyatt,

Attached gg file of our battery pack. So, actually we use custom board with the same schematic configuration in EVM (sluub71.pdf). In this scenario, I use 4 LED attached to TS1-4 as capacity indicator. At the same time, I use TS4 for the cell temperature. I also enable LEDCHG, so the LED indicator will be turned on while in charging mode. I could expect some temperature data noise while the battery capacity is between 75 - 100% since the last LED connected to TS4 is turned on. But, I don't understand why temperature reading got noisy, even in the begining of charging mode?

    Thanks,

    Widji

  • Hello Widji,

Do you have any capacitance on any of the lines that would leave voltages higher on those pins? I would avoid trying to use the pins both for TS and LEDs if possible.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi Wyatt,

Sorry for very late response. So you don't recommend to use TS pin as temperature sensor but at the same time also used for LED notification?

If that is the case, that's ok. I'll recommend to the team not to use LED notification, at least I won't enable it during charging period.

    Thanks for your support.

    Regards,

    Widji

  • Hi Widji,

Do you have a schematic of this we can review.

    Thanks.
