650VDC supply for UCC28600

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28600

Hi

I came across this design from TI for a DC/DC convertor from 650V input to 12V output.

http://www.ti.com/tool/pmp5067

I can't understand how can UCC28600 handle 650V while its absolute maximum input voltage is 32V. There are some resistors connected between 650 to Vdd but do they suffice ?

I am quite new to power electronics. Please help me understand

Thanks & Regards

PK

  • Please be careful if you are new, 650VDC are plain deadly.

Now regarding your question, the voltage for the control electronics on steady state is generated by an auxiliary winding of the transformer (pins 4-5). There are two good books you can read regarding power supplies design:

Switching power supplies from A to Z by Maniktala

Switching power supply design by Pressman

  • Thanks a lot for the reply Albert  ... I will check those books.

By the way I am new to power electronics ... however have been working with 600V as electrical engr for quite some time :)

M planning to do a 600 to 5V ... less than 1W ... any recommendation or pointers to literature

    Thanks & Regards
