bq27541

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27541, BQ27500

1.  It seems the internal temp sensor is drifting, depending on charge or discharge current.  Temp seems proportional to magnitude and direction of current flow.  Discharge current drives temp down and charge current drives temp up.  What could cause this?   The readings of voltage and current seem to be highly accurate.  It is connected per the data sheet design, except the external thermistor is not loaded.  The pack configuration register reads from flash = 8138.

2.  Is the -v200 only a firmware change, or did the die change too?

3.   If upgrading to -v200, does another golden file have to be created?  Also, does the EVSW have to be upgraded also and where would you find that?

4.  I've been struggling through lots of info trying to figure out how to program and calibrate the gas gauge outside of the TI software.  It appears to be painful.  Our production will not allow out of house software on the production floor.  Is there a more streamlined approach to this?  I've read all the app notes associated with the product.  I would also like a prelim copy of the tool that allows creating a bqfs and a dffs file with an encrypted record (senc) and optional file containing the specific Data Flash Image (DFI), from SLUA541.

  • John,

    1. It looks like a ground issue of ADC. Which firmware version is this? Can you update to -V200 and use the same pack configuration setting. (V200 has GNDSEL bit opened and it should be 0).

    2. just firmware change

    3. EVSW has to be upgraded but old golden file can be converted to V200 compatible. (app note: SLUA453A). The EVSW is in final release.

    4. Do you calibrate every board in your production? If not, a average method should be used.

    Thanks

    Ming

  • 1.  -v112

    3.  any kind of time frame for SW release?  if switching to -v200, how do you get to set and look at changes in evsw, or do you have to change manually through I2C bus?

    4.  I'm in engineering eval now, and it will be every board calibrated and it will be done through the TI EVSW.  If all goes will, then production will have to start programing the boards without the use of TI SW.  It would be hard for me to explain if production would have to stop because boards would start failing outside limits and the fix would be only calibration but no ability to do so.  It appears simple in the evsw and easy to automate if all the steps were known.  Would also like the tool described in SLUA541 that allows creating a bqfs and a dffs file with an encrypted record (senc) and optional file containing the specific Data Flash Image (DFI).

  • Please check -v200 website and the EVSW is there now.  For the tool I can send to you separately, please let me know your email address.

  • I sent friend request that has email address in it for the sw tool.

  • I would also like the tool described in SLUA541 that allows creating a bqfs and a dffs file with an encrypted record (senc) and optional file containing the specific Data Flash Image (DFI).

Trying to figure out how to update data flash for bq27541 in production.

I am looking at SLUA541,  "Updating the bq275xx at Production" and SLUA504, "Going to Production with the bq2754x"

One method uses  .bqfs and .dffs files and the other the DFI file.

I don't know the relative advantages of each method, and don't seem to have enough details and  tools to go forward with either.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Lee,

*.bqfs and *.dffs are for host processor to program the gauge. *.dfi file is for TI EVSW software to use through EV2300 interface.*.bqfs is equivalent to *.senc file which contains all the flash information. *.dffs is equivalent to *.dfi file which has data flash contents only. *.dffs and *.bqfs is text script files. *.senc and *.dfi are binary files.

  • HI,

I need the tool to make the programmation file.

I need to update a Bq27500 in a pocketPC runnning with WinCE.

The host processor will program the gauge. Today, we are able to send a gg file to the gauge and we can manage to develop our own application to send a .bqfs file but I will wonder if you already have a code example, an application or a dll to do that.

    Best regards.
