BQ76PL455A-Q1: About the value of the series resistor between the EQ pin and the MOS gate, and the pull-down resistor

Part Number: BQ76PL455A-Q1

Hi Team,

In BQ76PL455's datasheet, for passive balanced, the recommended circuit has a series of 2K resistors in the MOS gate, and uses the 100K resistor to pull down between the source and the gate:

1, why use  such a large resistance 2K and 100K , what are the considerations?

2. Is it possible to use the 100 resistor instead of the 2K resistor ,and use the 10k instead of the 100K resistor ?

  • Hi,

As mentioned, the 2k ohm is to help the EQ pin survive hot-plug events. Reducing the resistor size should be okay - just be wary that it may be a little less robust.

The 100k is just a weak pull down to make sure the FET turns off, and is good practice. It should be okay to make it smaller.
  • Hi,

    Thanks for your reply!

What kind of the hot-plug event do you mean? Does that mean that the MOS is connected to the IC via the backplane?

If the MOS and the  IC are assembled on a circuit board by SMT, does need to consider hot-plug ?

  • Hi,

Hot-plug refers to plugging in the actual cell connectors. All of the cell connections inside of the connector are very close, but in the instant of plugging it in there is no guarantee that each cell will plug in a sequential order. Basically, it is the ability of the IC to survive the plugging in and removal of cells in a random order. It should always be considered, SMT, through-hole, or otherwise!
