LM5018: latch off feature of current limit

Guru 29690 points
Part Number: LM5018

Hi Team,

Is there reference design that LM5018 latches off (disable) itself if load current exceeds currrent limit threshold?
It is ideal toggling VIN recovers to enable in this case.

  • Hello Yaita,

It is highly unlikely we would have something like this. Most applications require the output to recover once the overload current is removed. If you need to implement a latch off, the simplest way is to implement a voltage detect comparator on Vout. If the output drops to a certain level (which will happen in a heavy overload condition, you could latch off, you will need to implement a hold off, for this circuit for initial start up? This implementation would be very crude, the best way is you to implement current sensing. You will need a current sense amplifier and a latching circuit? Suggest placing a Resistor in series with the Vout to sense output current and using a INA amplifier like the one shown in the link below?

I would use the UVLO pin as your latch control input.

    Hope this helps?
