TPS74701: Reverse current protection

I think TPS74701 requires reverse current protection schottky diode if Vout becomes higher than Vin.

Now at our customer, reverse current flows from OUT to IN of TPS74701 by internal leak of system LSI. We think the leak current level may be several mA.

Vout voltage becomes about 300 to 400mV higher than Vin by internal parasitic diode and leak current.

In this case, should we put reverse current protection diode? Or isn't it must if it is this level current?

    Hi Kohei-san,

    Although the leakage current is low, please keep in mind that parasitic diodes are not characterized. The forward voltage and heat generated while conducting reverse current could vary from device to device. As such, TI recommends implementing reverse current protection in any application where reverse current is expected. Using a Schottky diode will ensure that the output voltage does not exceed the absolute maximum rating of Vin + 0.3 V:
