My customer has question.
Does the LM317's Output Capacitor only work with ceramic capacitors?
Are there any conditions that require ESR etc?
Since the LM317 is an older process device,
customer would like to confirm that it works with low ESR ceramic capacitors alone.

Hi T Kishi,
LM317 is able to achieve stability with only ceramic output capacitors. While the output capacitor is recommended, it is not required for stability.
We do encourage prototyping in order to understand how your selected capacitors will impact the regulator performance under your application conditions. The following Application Report discuses how to check stability by performing load transient tests:
