TPS62363: TPS62363 voltage ramp rate

Hello, I am working on a dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) integrated circuit design that is intended to use an off-chip power management chip to regulate different voltages. I have seen that many power management ICs offer a variety of voltage change slope options. For example, Texas Instruments' TPS62363 chip can be programmed with 8 different voltage regulation rates (from 0.25mV/us to 32mV/us). How can I consider this? Which kind of voltage regulation rate should I apply to?

I want to know how to choose the ramp rate value. In other words, I want to know the difference between the eight voltage ramp rates (from 0.25mV / us to 32mV / us). For example, if I choose a faster ramp rate, will it cause more severe voltage overshoot or undershoot? How serious will it be? The data sheet does not have this information.

Is the voltage ramp rate only considered in AVS (SmartReflex)? In the application report "Powering OMAP™3 With TPS6235x: Design-In Guide ", I found that the slew rate requirement is only mentioned in SmartReflex (section 2.4.2) but not in DVFS (section 2.4.2).

Hi Noah,

Please see below characterization results during ramp-up to give an overview on the device behavior. I just wanted to highlight that the inrush current should also be considered especially if the system is battery powered. I hope that data help you to select the optimize ramp rate setting.

Test condition: Vout = 0.8V to 1.2V

Note: The data above is NOT guaranteed specs.

Hi Noah,

It's the Application Processor or SoC which defined the requirements (voltage setting, slew rate, etc.) in using its DVFS and AVS features and NOT the power management IC. Kindly check the AP or SoC specs you will be using if the TPS62363 will be able to support it.
