TPS53513: the efficiency comparison with TPS563210A 12Vin/5Vout@0~3A

Part Number: TPS53513
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS563210A,

Hi Team,

Can I kindly ask for the efficiency between TPS53513 and TPS563210A  under condition of 12Vin/5Vout@0~3A ,

my customer is choosing TPS53513 as solution seems their application is 12Vin/5Vout@0~3A , and needed better light load efficiency,

based on the datasheet , TPS53513 looks it have better efficiency compare to TPS563210A , and TPS563210A seems too margin to use in 3A(DC current) condition.

could you kindly a quick check to see if TPS53513 have better efficiency and it's a better fit solution for my customer application?

Andy

  • Andy,

If you optimize for efficiency you should get slightly better results with TPS53513, theoretically about 98% vs 95%.  TPS563210A has a quasi-fixed frequency of around 760 kHz.  TPS53513 switching frequency can be rlowered to reduce switching losses.  You can compare the two designs using Webench for the same conditions.

  • Hi John,

thanks for the reply, customer been chose TPS53513 as solution.

and I had do the WEBENCH of TPS53513 for quick check , but since the setting can't change the operating mode, so in the simulation it fixed in FCCM mode, so even change the switching frequency to the lowest 250KHz, the simulation efficiency at light load is still not good.

is there's any setting that I can change the Mode to PWM mode for simulation?

  • Andy,

I do not see any way to select power save mode.
