TPS23880: Why every PSE chips share same I2C address in TPS23881EVM-083?

In TPS23881EVM-083 evaluation system, total 6 pieces of TPS23880, however they share same I2C address, A3~A1 pins are all tied to GND, only A4 is configurable through J2 jumper.

However in TPS23881EVM-008, A4~A1 are all configurable through 4 jumpers.

I wonder if all 6 TPS23880 share same I2C address, how GUI to download firmware to each chip and how the GUI access each register in each chip? How host distinguish each chip?

Now I need three TPS23880s on my board, which solution you suggest on I2C address setting? TPS23881EVM-083 or TPS23881EVM-008?

Hi user4644112,

Each TPS23881 on TPS23881EVM-083 has a different I2C address. If you look at the schematic, the first TPS23882's A1-A3 are connected to GND. The second TPS23881's A2,A3 are connected to GND and A1 is floating. The third TPS23881's A1, A3 are connected to GND and A2 is floating. And so on so forth. Please see below screen shots from TPS23881EVM-083 schematic(https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-050026-23881). So in general, if you have multiple TPS23881 devices in the system, you will need to have different I2C addresses. Please note that we recommend use TPS23881 devices instead of TPS23880 since it has better performance and lower price. Thanks.

Your snapshot above is different with my schematic. I got it from https://e2e.ti.com/cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/196/PSIL083A-designFile.zip .

It looks like my document is not correct one.

Could you share your above schematic and layout file to me A.S.A.P.

Hi user4644112,

The files you got are correct. There are 6 devices and they share the same schematic but we set different A1-A3 resistors to be not populated for different TPS23881 device. If you output the schematic you will get the same PDFs from https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-050026-23881. Thanks.
