TPS74401: Datasheet information confirmation

Part Number: TPS74401

Hi team,

A customer is using TPS74401 ADJ LDO in his design..

He have some question on description of datahsheet.

In the datasheet they mention that
The enable threshold is typically 0.8 V and varies with temperature and process variations.

Temperature variation is approximately –1 mV/°C; therefore, process variation accounts for most of the variation in the enable threshold.

If precise turn-on timing is required, use a fast rise-time signal to enable the TPS74401.
He just want to understand with increase in temperature .. What will happen to VEN Threshold..

Will it also increase or decrease...?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

  • Hi Frank,

We use the electrical characteristics table to guarantee the threshold over process and temperature:

So above 1.1V, we say the device will always be on and below 0.4V, the device will always be off. In between these thresholds, operation is not guaranteed.

I hope this will help you clarify with the customer.

  • Hi John,

    Thank you for your response.

customer want to understand, If the voltage at VEN H is 0.95V instead of 1.1V at 30 deg how the VEN threshold (Internal to Chip) behaves.
Will it increase with increase in temperature need some details on this with respect to Temperature.

He see a statement in the datasheet “ The enable threshold is typically 0.8 V and varies with temperature and process variations.

Temperature variation is approximately –1 mV/°C”

Just want to understand how VEN threshold vary with respect to temperature..

He said that he don’t really concerned about working of the device.

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Frank

  • Hi Frank,

Below when the enable pin is below 1.1V and above 0.4V we can not make any comments as in this region the operation is 'undefined'. This means the over process lots there could be variation. These variations could go up or down based on the lot.  The datasheet guarantees performance over all process corners over the full temperature range.

I am sorry but we do not typically characterize performance in the undefined region.

I hope this helps to clarify.
