TPS61200: TPS61200 capable of 4V from single AA?

I am currently using the TPS61021A in a single AA cell application that requires 4V @ 200mA (max load 5% of the time - probably less than 5mA average) with PMOS reverse battery protection.  Unfortunately, as described in the slva315 appnote, the reverse battery protection goes into the linear mode when the battery starts to get low.  The TPS61200 seem to be a nice replacement that solves this issue. However, it is not supported in Webench.  Wondering if the example in Figure 28 will still work reliably if the feedback resistors are adjusted to output 4V instead of 3.3V?

Also, is a PSPICE model available for the part if I install the TI PSpice application?

    i didn't see any issue to adjust the output to 4V. but TPS61200 efficiency is  at 200mA condition from low VIN is not as good as TPS61021A. the device may can't support 200mA 4V from 0.9V input.

    you could still use TPS61021A and use the VOUT to drive the N-FET. Place a schottky diode in parallel with N-FET. the forward voltage of a schottky is approximately 0.4V. The device could startup if the battery voltage is higher than 1.3V. you can experiment this in current PCB.

  • Thanks Jasper.  I did some more thinking on this today and think that the best solution may be to just use a battery holder that has mechanical reverse polarity protection.
