TPS65910: AM3352 Power Connections

Part Number: TPS65910
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3352

In the TPS65910Ax User's Guide for AM335x Processors (Rev. F) page 3 of 10, the diagram shows the SMPS and LDO connections to the AM335x. We are using the AM3352 in our current design.

          TPS65901                                   AM335x

VDIG1 300mA (default 1.8V)   ----->   VDDSHVx

VAUX2 300mA (default 3.3V)  ------>  VDDSHVx

VMMC 300mA (default 3.3V)  ------>  VDDSHV

I understand the VDDSHVx is a dual voltage zone for VDDIO as either 1.8V or 3.3V. Only VDIG1 or VAUX2 is connected to VDDSHVx, not both. However, what is the actual pin connection(s) for VMMC?

With reference to the BeagleBone Black schematic, PCB revision B6, the PMIC is the TPS65271C and LDO4 (VDD_3V3A) is connected to all the VDDSHV pins.

Thanks,

Jim

  • Hi, Jim,

       Since the processor AM335x has total 6 VDDSHV (from VDDSHV1 to VDDSHV6) for total 6 different I/O ports, so, it depends on your design, you can pick a power rail from the PMIC TPS65910 to meet your I/O voltage level to connect with.

       For multiple I/O power supply support, you need to consider the total current need from the I/O ports; for example, a 300mA LDO can support up to 6 I/O ports since according to processor AM335x datasheet, every I/O ports has up to 50mA current.

       Please also check with the processor application for for details.

      Thanks!

  • Hi Phil,

    Thanks for the clarification.

    Best regards,
