CCS/BQ76940EVM: BQ76940EVM BQSTUDIO SETTING

Part Number: BQ76940EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, BQ78350, BQ76940, BQ78350-R1A, BQ76952

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hello, I have some questions.

I'm using BQ76940EVM and I don't know how to set it up in BQSTUDIO for balancing.

Even if I look at the manual, I can only see the voltage output for 15s connection.

Is there any data I can refer to?

It's too hard to understand BQSTUDIO.

Please help me.
I need information to refer to such things as understanding materials or videos.

  • Hi ChiHyeon,

The BQ76940EVM can be set up in two different ways as described in the EVM User Guide (https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slvu925c/slvu925c.pdf). In Section 2.2 there is an AFE Quick Start Guide (this uses simple software to just operate the BQ76940) and there is a Gauge Quick Start Guide (this uses BQStudio to operate the BQ78350 gauge and BQ76940 controller together).

If you use the BQ78350 Gauge, the BQ78350 controls the cell balancing and it cannot be controlled by the user. If you want to control cell balancing, you should use the AFE Quick Start guide and the AFE software.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi matt

I read the Quick Start Guide. but

The information on SOC,SOH is not included.
Where is the way to change these things?

Does it mean that the balance of BQ78350 cannot be adjusted between the balanced operational voltage and the cell voltage difference?

What are the values I can control and where are the ways to use them?

    Insufficient examples to use BQSTUDIO.
How can I get this information?

  • Hi ChiHyeon,

SOC and SOH are features of the BQ78350 gauge. If you use the gauge, the cell balancing is automatically controlled by the BQ78350. You will need to review the Cell Balancing chapter in the BQ78350-R1A Technical Reference manual. This device has many features and you will need to review the documentation.

This video is for a different battery monitor (the BQ76952), but it shows how BQStudio works - it might help you to see some examples for changing the settings:
