[FAQ] LM2663: How much ESR and capacitance are recommended for external capacitor?

Part Number: LM2663

Hi team,

Could you tell me How much ESR and capacitance (range) are recommended for external capacitor as C1 and C2?

I would like to use LM2633 as +2.5V input and -2.5V output converter.

Regards,
Ochi

  • Hello Yoshiki,

The ESR shall be low, so you can use ceramic capacitors or check for ESR below 0.2 ohm max if you are using electrolytic types.

On the EVM we are using 10uF each, during testing of the part 47uF each is used, so if the performance is good with capacitors within this range, I would stick to these. Smaller caps can be used as well, but then the output ripple will increase. For bigger caps, the startup current might increase.
