LMG1025-Q1EVM: Can I amplify a signal with sinusoidal modulation on a pulse?

Part Number: LMG1025-Q1EVM

I have a sinusoidal signal (about 500 MHz) modulated on the pulse (about 50 ns length, 1 MHz repetition frequency). The modulation depth is almost 100%. Can I use this amplifier to amplifier this signal to a output current around 0.5 A, with no/limited change on modulation depth?

  • Hi Morris,

Thanks for your question and welcome to the forum! We need some clarification about the signal to be able to provide a recommendation. Could you please provide a plot (time vs. amplitude) or a scope shot of your input signal, indicating:

    • Switching frequency
    • Duty cycle
    • Signal amplitude

Please also provide block diagram and schematic of your system. This will help us understand your requirements and the load you want to drive with this gate driver.

    Best regards,

    Leslie

  • Thank you for your reply.

What I have is a modulated pulse train, switching frequency 1 MHz, duty cycle 5%. Signal amplitude ~10 mA. The pulse is modulated by a 500 MHz sinusoidal wave. See figure below:

What I want is to amplify this signal to an amplitude of 500 mA, and other factors the same, so in figure,

I am wondering if LMG1025-Q1EVM can do this job.

Thanks and looking forward to your reply

  • Hello Morris,

I work with Leslie in the drivers group.

The LMG board is a voltage driven board requiring 0 to 3V PWM signals to enable the LMG1025 driving the GaN FET on the board as indicated in Section 8.1 of the user's guide.

The driver IC typically accepts square wave digital signals (up to 60MHz) on IN+ and/or IN- to amplify it to 5.5V signal driving gated-MOSFET as designed on the EVM therefore the board may not be the right fit for your application.

  • Do you have a suggestion which product can I buy to fulfill my application?

  • Hello Morris,

Your thread has been forwarded to the High Speed Amplifier group which deals with amplifiers with a bandwidth greater than 50MHz. Are you looking for amplifying the current with no concern with voltage? Could you tell me more about the specific application?

    Thank you,

    Sima
