from EVM-BQStudio to Production / only MCU?

Part Number: BQ35100
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Hi,

How is the BQ35100 to be configured in production units, i.e. away from an EVM and BQStudio? Is this documented somewhere and I'm missing it?

I've read all the documents at https://www.ti.com/product/BQ35100#tech-docs

But with regards to the learnings obtained from calibration of an individual setup and characterisation of a battery chemistry, its not clear how to get that into each and every unit.

  • If a Golden Image is created, how is that to be used for batch/mass produced PCBs with an MCU and this gauge?
  • Its unclear if this calibration is widely applicable or also needs to run outside BQStudio on every unit
  • How do non-EVM / BQstudio connected boards select from the battery list referred to in BQStudio?

thanks for any help and experience

  • Hello Brad,

There may be some other E2E posts that can be helpful for production level questions.

For this gauge I would recommend calibrating a few of your boards (20-30) and if the values are close just average them and use them for your golden image.

You can export a flash stream file from this final configured gauge and program other boards using the Gauge Communication application note to develop a programmer for the gauges.

  • Thanks Wyatt,

    some  first impressions and suggestions

    • as far as i can tell slua801 is not referred to on the page or technical documentation list nor any of the documents listed on that page. i.e. users won't find it
    • slua801 has code in a pdf appendix. Is 2021 ... does TI not have this kind of thing in github or similar?
    • there are a high number of forum questions about using this gauge. The quantity of posts suggest users aren't finding this as easy as it could be. If you know of some keywords I'm missing that have been covered, a link to those topics would be greatly appreciated

    regards.

    Brad

  • Hello Brad,

Not all of our gauges have support for flash stream files, but we are slowly including support. We will have the technical documents updated soon to include slua801 when supported.

We don't currently have a github for the code, it is only included in the app note.

Sometimes it's better to search for specific issues and not necessarily the part number.

    Sincerely,
