MC33063A-Q1: boost: when the input voltage is higher than the output

Part Number: MC33063A-Q1

Hello Team,

One of my customer want to understand behavior of MC33063A-Q1, when input voltage is greater than set output voltage in boost mode.

will it work in bypass mode?

is there any issue while operating in this region?

Regards,

Mahendra

  • Hi Mahendra,

For a boost circuit, when the input is greater than the output set point by at least a diode drop, the PWM will stop and the input voltage will pass through the rectifier diode and raise the output voltage up:  Vout = Vin - VF - Io x Rs, where Rs is the internal impedance along the current path from the input to the output. As long as the input voltage is less the IC's rating voltage, there should be no issue while operating in this region.

    Thanks,

    Youhao Xi, Applications Engineering.
