LMZ13608: Schematic design review

Part Number: LMZ13608

Hi Team,

Our customer would like to request a schematic design review of their application using 4pcs. of LMZ13608. Please refer to the schematic diagram below.

  • Hi Team,

The customer would like to confirm if at 70C, the device is capable of supplying 5V/4A with ripple voltage of 16.33mv peak to peak.

    Regards,

    Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

I've recieved the schematic and will provide my feedback by EOD today.

    Regards,

    Jimmy

  • Hi Danilo,

It looks like the 5V output rail schematic is the same for all CH1-CH4.

As such the below recommendations apply to all circuits in the pdf.

    • Schematic shows capacitors are all polarized so I'd suggest adding a few ceramic on the input and output
    • Use Equation 9 in datasheet to calculate necessary output capacitance based on transient voltage requirement.
      • Assuming 5% of 5V | 6A step | 350kHz | effective output ESR of 3mOhm the output capacitance should be around 370uF.
    • Recommend at least one ceramic capacitor on output for low output ripple. I'd suggest following recommended values in datasheet (47uF X5R MLCC + 470uF tantalum polymer cap). Make sure both capacitors are rated for at least 16V.
    • Recommend one ceramic capacitor on the input. Datasheet suggests 30uF MLCC on VIN. This capacitor should be rated for at least 25V.
    • It looks like the circuit is using the tracking feature. Which circuit is the initiator circuit and which is the responder circuit? Note that for proper operation in tracking mode dictates that the soft-start time of the responder circuit rails be shorter than the initiator rail. Currently all circuits are set with the same Rtkt and Rtkb. Please refer to Section 8.2.2.5 for more details.
