Hello,

is there an included functionality to limit the state of charge to 80 % in order to increase the battery lifetime?

Limiting the SoC to 80 % will significantly increase the lifetime. Any other charger with 3A and at least USB 3.0 and somekind of quick charge would be alright, too.

The battery has 1,250 mAh and runs at 3,7 V.

Setting VREG, the Charging Voltage, to 4 V will do around 80 % for this battery. However, I'm unaware if the charging curve is ideal until this point.

The charger has no information about SOC. External control is needed.

Hi Ning!

So setting the Charging Voltage does not help here? The battery voltage shouldn't exceed the charging voltage, should it?

If I cannot limit the SoC by the Charge Voltage, what would be your suggested way of controlling it externally? Should one read the current battery voltage through an ADC and switch the charger off in case the wanted SoC/voltage has been reached?

I am also interested in the https://www.ti.com/product/BQ25792, and have the same question regarding limiting the SoC, here.

Simon,

Ideally there should be external circuitry (e.g.battery gauge) to monitor the SOC and adjust the charging parameters accordingly as needed. In general, battery monitoring is not a basic function of chargers.
