BQ40Z60: Unable to charge or discharge

Hi TI Community!

I have two of the BQ40Z60 evaluation boards (BQ40Z60EVM) and I have downloaded the corresponding TI Battery Manager Software. For one of these boards (Board 1), the FETs are working and I am able to toggle charge/discharge commands. For the second (Board 2), this is not the case and I am unable to charge/discharge. There are no safety issue registers flagged, so at this point, I am unsure what the problem can be on Board 2. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Update: The output from the CHG pin (Pin 32) on the BQ40Z60 is 7.54V, as measured at R10. The input voltage is 15V.

Hi Olivier,

Did the board work and then stop working or did it never work? Is your setup exactly the same between for both boards? Have you noticed if anything else has stopped working?

Hi Jessica,

Thanks for the reply. Both boards should be identical except for maybe some manufacturing deviations. The settings are also identical between the boards.

The FETs on this board have not been able to be toggled so far. We did replace Q2 and Q3 and reflowed the bq40z60, but the same behavior was observed in between and after all steps.

We’re not sure what the next best step for troubleshooting would be. Let us know your thoughts!

Hello Olivier,

If you performed an ABA swap and confirmed it was the bq40z60, it may have been damaged from ESD which we sometimes see during prototyping but is uncommon.
