BQ21061: Trigger event of charge_done_flag of BQ21061

Part Number: BQ21061

Hi team,

My customer is using our BQ21061 and they have some questions about it.

  • How do we trigger our Chare_done ? Is it IBAT < ITERM which is shown as below figure orit is triggered by when the VBAT achieved Battery Regulation Voltage (4.2 V default). They couldn't get the charge done flag for now.

  • How do we evaluate the setting criteria of VBATREG since the capacity varies between individual batteries and the battery capacity decrease as time goes on
  • Does the interrupt pin active when USB plug/unplug every time? Does any register setting will affect the interrupt pin or it just silicon broken?

Thank for your kindly help.

  • Hi Feng,

How do we trigger our Chare_done ? Is it IBAT < ITERM which is shown as below figure orit is triggered by when the VBAT achieved Battery Regulation Voltage (4.2 V default)

The Charge_Done bit will show a charge complete based on the IBAT current. When IBAT falls below the programmed termination current, charging will be considered done.

How do we evaluate the setting criteria of VBATREG since the capacity varies between individual batteries and the battery capacity decrease as time goes on

Is the question what should VBATREG be set to? The battery capacity will change over time but the BQ21061 will provide accurate charging while having implemented protections and management (such as battery charge profile featuring pre-charge, fast charge, constant voltage, and termination) to extend battery health life. Ultimately, the VBATREG setting is a design question.

Does the interrupt pin active when USB plug/unplug every time? Does any register setting will affect the interrupt pin or it just silicon broken?

There are a few device functional modes: Charger (or Adapter), Ship Mode, Low Power Mode, and Active Battery mode. The interrupt functionality is only available in Charge mode and Active Battery mode. These modes are discussed in section 7.4.

    Best Regards,

    Anthony Pham
