TPS2553: Current limit behavior

Part Number: TPS2553
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Hello expert,

I have question for TPS2553's current limit behavior.

My understanding for this device's reaction for over current event is output should be turned off at first after then output side start to supply regulated output when device is enabled and be suppled voltage from input side.
Also, Vout supply regulated voltage at first if OC is happened when TPS2553 is starting up or enabling.
However, TINA-TI simulation result showed this device supplied regulated power to load side at first and FET haven't turned of as follows.

Then would you tell me actual condition of when internal path FET is turned off?

Best regards,
Kazuki Kuramochi

  • Hi Kazuki,

If the current is high, the current limit loop can't respond immediately. It will have an irush current outside.

If the current drawn is just minor beyond the Ios, it will not turn off the Mos. It will current limit directly.

  • Hi Ziv-san,

I there any information regarding threshold between above 2 behaviors?

  • Hi Kazuki,

You can refer to tios time of figure 21.

There is no exact OC threshold for above behavior.
