BQ76942: External NPN BJT collector connection

Part Number: BQ76942

Hi team,

Do the collector of external NPN have to be connected between CHG MOS and DSG MOS? If the answer is yes, why?

Is there any IOs that can indicate the power mode of BQ76942? Customer wants to shut down BQ76942, MCU and other load in power save mode. This IO pin can output high level as EN signal to enable the power supply of MCU and other load.

Thanks.

  • Hi Yuting,

The NPN is connected to the common drain of the FETs so that the regulator current can be provided by the charger if it is connected avoiding a large current draw on the battery.

There are no IO pins to indicated the power mode of the BQ76942. For Shutdown mode, this should be possible though - you can set one of the multi-purpose IO pins as a general purpose output and set the output to drive high to the REG1 voltage. When the device goes into Shutdown, the pin will no longer drive high since the regulator will be turned off.

    Best regards,

    Matt
