LMR36503: Maximum default soft start duration

We cannot guarantee this number since it is not in the datasheet but I will look to see if we can provide a max from a lot distribution.

It's a bit troubling that you don't give a maximum value.

Does it mean we should rather put an external capacitor on that pin to ensure the min/max range ?

The datasheet specs are a tradeoff between information and cost. Testing soft start for every device will require many additional milliseconds of testing. This increases the cost of production which increases the cost of the part. Most customers do not have strict maximum soft start requirements so this would not be worth the cost in the majority of cases. It is frustrating to be in the minority, needing information that we cannot guarantee, but unfortunately that's what we need to consider for the business.

Unfortunately this device does not have an external soft start pin so you cannot adjust soft start. You can add external circuitry if desired.

I am still waiting to receive the information from a lot from the team but I will send it as soon as I have it.

Sorry, I did not check the datasheet before answering before. The datasheet for the LMR36503 actually does have a min/typ/max specified for soft start. Were you referring to a different part?

From a sample of 12.5k units, max was 7.5ms.

Ok thanks. I think we will add a capacitor on the pin just to ensure we master the time as this one is just a "sampling".

Samuel Jaffe do you have info on the conditions (temperature) of that sample test ?

Oh damn... So we have no way to master the worst case maximum time that your component will take to startup.

That's a shame

Startup time is an important criteria for us.
