BQ76PL455A: how to text conductor voltage between cells use BQ76PL455

Part Number: BQ76PL455A

   in my application, there  is a long conductor between 7rd and 8rd cell,the conductor voltage about 0~800mV,can I use BQ76PL455A-Q1 (VSENSE8 & VSENSE7)to test the conductor voltage?if cannot,do you have good idea?thanks。

  • Hi user,

Unfortunately, this is one of the biggest challenges with the pl455. Remember, the conductor voltage can be a negative value during discharge, which our ADC cannot support. Measuring this voltage drop can also result in the voltage rating for the sense pins being violated.

If possible, I think it would be good to use a thicker conductor to reduce the voltage drop. Alternatively, you could think about splitting it into two modules.
  • Hi  David,

Do we have the spec for the maximum time for Vsense channel to survive under -0.3V?

What is the power grade of internal TVS protection in Vsense pin ? Thanks.

  • Hi Cheng,

Those diodes are for ESD protection and  not meant to protect the pin from negative  voltages. Customers will sometimes bring this up as a solution, but I do not recommend this at all.
