{req} Info on BQ24450 Please

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24450

Looking at datasheet's on bq24450 there is mention on it charging at around 15 Amps. as i am prototyping at the moment i am needing this info quite urgently.

power supply is at 38volts DC 40amps (battery or multiple batteries at 12v Lead Acid Type from 80amp to > 200amps)..

Q ext is multiple Mosfet-P in parallel ..

So please let me know external resistor settings and any help on R isnsm &  isnsp also D Schottky as high current is being used..

circuit is similar to attached

  • I would suggest that you use the bq24450 with a bjt transistor as the pass element rather than a MOSFET.  The datasheet provides all the equations required to select the proper transistor and resistors.  You should be able to use the datasheet design example and modify the per your electrical requirements.  I'm not aware of any working circuits with MOSFETs.  If you use a MOSFET, please note that your schematic is drawn incorrectly because you must connect the MOSFET source to input side and the drain to the output side.  The schematic as drawn shorts the input to the output through the MOSFET parasitic body diode.  You will need to select a Schottky diode based on your voltage and current needs.  Your local distributor can assist by narrowing your search to something that carry on their line card and that they can get you for prototyping.

  • forgot to flip mosfet's on drawing nicely spotted..

i will look into bjt transistor as the pass element rather than a MOSFET
