BQ24261M wathchdog timer

Dear all, I have a question about the set up of BQ24261M's watchdog timer. In the EVM guide, it said it's better to reset watchdog timer every 5 seconds. During my test, when I try to off the watchdog timer, the charging process will be end. But I am wonder if it is necessary to reset the watchdog timer.

    You cannot disable the watchdog timer. If you do not reset the timer as recommended in the datasheet, the register settings, including those for VBATREG, ICHRG and CE, return to default values. Since default CE bit value is charge disable, charging will stop when the watchdog timer expires.

    Hi, Jeff, thank you very much for your reply. As you said, I must enable the watchdog timer every 5 seconds of BQ24261M during my test. But I also have a confuse, when I test other chargers ,such like BQ24190, I must disable the watchdog timer in case of stopping charging. What the difference between the watchdog timer of BQ24261M and BQ24190? Thank you.

    Hi Sammi,

    Bq24261M has a fixed watchdog timer of 50sec, it cannot be disabled. that's why you need to reset it every time before it expires. In other chargers, you can just disable the watchdog directly.
