BQ34Z100-G1 calibration without using evaluation tool

Hi,

We are trying to calibrate bq34z100-g1 for non-rechargeable Li-ion cells. We are using 2 cells in series. Can anybody help with the calibration steps we need to do without using evaluation tool?

About the Li-ion cell:

capacity: 1550mAh
voltage: 3v per cell.

I have updated the following parameters:

voltsel bit to 1
design capacity to 1550mAh
design energy to 9300mW
number of series cells: 2
flsh update ok cell volt = 3888

How can we run the learning cycle so that the fuel gauge reports the remaining capacity correctly?

Which steps are required to fully configure and calibrate the fuel gauge for non-rechargeable cells without using the evaluation tool?

You can use the steps in this e2e post as a guideline to run the optimization cycle.

We do not have a calibration guide for the device, but the process will be the same as the examples shown in Host System Calibration Method document. Search for SLUA640 on the TI website.

Hi Thomas,

What parameters in data flash needs to be updated for voltage calibration, current calibration and temperature calibration?
ie, we have offset values calculated through calibration. Where should we use this values?

I referred SLUA640, but couldn't find 'vOffSet' value in datasheet.

Another doubt, fuel gauge reads remaining capacity as '0'. It should show some value even if the calibration and optimization cycles are not performed, right? Can you tell me what could be the problem here?

It looks like the voltage calibration in that document does not apply to the bq34z100. You can use the sequence in the Going to Production document. SLUA665

The Remaining Capacity problem could be due to the lack of voltage calibration and it could be due to the wrong ChemID being programmed in the device.

As described in SLUA665, 'Voltage divider' value in flash is updated. But,there is no change in voltage reported by fuel gauge. Is there any other value needs to be modified, in order to the new 'voltage divider' value to take effect?

The gauge should adjust the reported voltage automatically after the Voltage Divider is changed. It will take a few seconds, if the gauge is in Sleep mode. I bench tested it to verify.
