WEBENCH® Tools/BQ34Z100-G1: Not able to discharge battery for a cut off voltage ... it getting discharging early ...?

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Iam testing battery of type : lead acid --12v, 1.3 ah

as a procedure of learn cycle -- charging cycle -- charged the battery full.

in discharging --- for cut off voltage of 10.5v .. battery getting discharge in 2 hours for 2 hours .... if i leave for 7 hours ..it will drop to 0v.

I am attaching the datasheet of battery and please verify what should be the discharging current for 7 hours for cut off voltage --10.5v.

from the data sheet of battery i observed ---> for dischargng -- discharging ccurrent -0.1465 amps, .. so 12 /0.1465= 82 Ohms ... so i set 82 ohm rheostat .. is it fine ?

what is the charging termination conditions for full charge battery --> i set a taper current =170 ma .... is it right ...?at what current i should consider the battery is full  iam unable to crack this condition through datasheet...

I am attaching the datashhet of battery , please check the datasheet  kindly help me....due to i have a very less experience on battery related.0207.Amptek_battery_12v_1.3Ah_datasheet.pdf

  • Hi Manoj,

~150mA and 82 ohms looks reasonable for your battery.

You can float-charge lead-acid batteries, but it looks like the current will stabilize at about 20mA from the graph in the cell datasheet.

You could start by testing the Taper Current in the gauge to 25mA.

  • hi dmax when discharging the battery.. current gradually decreasing from 146 ma(12v) to 60 ma(4v).. is it fine ? .. is current should be constant for discharge i.e 146ma and what voltage should i stop discharging from the datasheet of battery?

  • should i set tamper current to 250 or 25 for 25 mA
  • Hi Manoj,
You should set it to 25 for 25mA.
  • Hi dmax , at what voltage should i stop charging ...the battery ..when evm is connected to charger and battery ..what is voltage should  i consider the battery is fully charged..8510.0207.Amptek_battery_12v_1.3Ah_datasheet.pdf

  • 2185.0207.Amptek_battery_12v_1.3Ah_datasheet.pdfhi dmax, please expalin why you consider  25 mA , as per datasheet battery current is settle for 0.25 A

  • Hi Manoj,

To enable us to help support you with your gauge, please fully fill out the questionaire below and respond here with a summary of events so we may centralize all the information for this support request.

Is this a custom board or the EVM?
    If EVM:
    - Where are your jumpers set on J5 and J2?
    - J5: Shorting Pins ___ and ___, and pins ___ and ___
    - J2: Shorting pins ___ and ___
    If Custom Board:
    - Voltage Divider Values on BAT:
    - High Resistor: __________ Ohm
    - Low Resistor: __________ Ohm
    - Current Sense Resistor: _________ mOhm

    Battery Cell Information:
    - Chemistry: _______
    - Max Voltage: ______ V
    - Nominal Voltage: ______ V
    - Capacity: _____ mAH

    Battery Stack/Application Information:
    - Configuration: __S__P
    - Max Load: ________ mA
    - Nominal Load : ________ mA
    - Normal Operating Temperature: _______ degC
    - Operational Temperature Range: ______ degC through _____ degC
    - External Thermistor on Pack: Y / N
    - Pack side or System side Gauge: Pack / System

Please give a brief description of the use case for this gauge and what the application currents/loading may look like.

What is the current state of your gauge?

Have you followed the steps outlined in section 8 of the Datasheet?

What value(s) are you expecting from the gauge, and what value(s) are you instead seeing?

    Please attach your:

    1. Most recent gg.csv file
    2. Log file of failed tests (if any)
    3. Schematic of your system
