BQ34Z110: BQ34Z110 :CONFIGURING FOR A BETTER PERFORMANCE

i AM USING A YUASA PbA NP7 12V BATTERY WITH A CONSTANT POWER LOAD. FURTHERMORE I AM USING THE BATTERY MANAGEMENT STUDIO WITH THE BQ34Z110 CHIP. IN ORDER TO MAKE MORE EEFICIENT MY PRODUCT THERE IS A SORT OF QUESTION OR DOUBT I WOULD LIKE TO UNDERSTAND REALLY WELL.

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY CONFIGURE THE BIT FC SET %. LEAVING THIS PARAMETER BY ITS DEFAULT VALUE OF  100 I NORMALLY REACHED TO SET THE FC BIT. IN THE SAME WAY, CHANGING THIS FC SET% PARAMETER TO -1 , IT TAKES MORE TIME TO TRIGGER THE BIT FC SETS DUE TO THE TAPER CURRENT THAT SHOULD BE BIGGER THAT THE BATTERY CURRENT.  IN BOTH WAYS, THE BIT FC SETS TO 1, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHICH OF TWO CONFIGURATIONS WOULD BE BETTER FOR MY APPLICATION.

  • Hi Eddy,

    FC set % = -1 is often preferred as it give a better full charge indication. This may require some modification of values on the device. Setting to a straight SOC % may also work, but not provide as accurate of a point for full charge termination.

    ANALIZING MY LOAD, I HAVE REALIZED IT HAS A PECULIAR BEHAVIOR. SOMETIMES IT CONSUMES CONSTANT CURRENT, AND IN OTHER CASES, IT WORKS AS A CONSTANT POWER LOAD. THAT'S WHY I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO CONFIGURE THE LOAD MODE  (LDMD) BIT TAKING IN CONSIDERATION THE UNKNOWN AND RANDOM NATURE OF MY LOAD.

    You may want to test between the different load modes for your device. These modes/selects are described in sections 7.3.6.1 and 7.3.6.2 of the datasheet.

    If the issue persists after modifying the load mode, could you share what your application load profile(s) look like? A graph may help here.
