BQ27742-G1: I2C timing questions

Part Number: BQ27742-G1

Asking for my customer:

I’m looking at your bq27742 datasheet and under the timing requirements it calls for a maximum 300 microsecond rise time. It looks like that number might be listed for I2C fast mode operation, which our application does not currently call for. Was that spec written into the bq27742’s datasheet for any reason other than it’s what’s called for in the NXP standard for fast mode operation? Is it fair to assume that the maximum rise time for standard mode operation is 1000ns?

The bq27742-G1 datasheet indicates that it operates in the FAST I2C mode (page 11, table 6.4 - last line in the I2C section).

But the EVM has 10k pull-up resistors - which would require a load capacitance of <25pF.  Question: what can the bq27742 SDA & SCL I/O drive? load current speaking. (or, in other words, how small can the pull-up resistors be?)

Secondly - can the bq27742 be operated in the 100kHz I2C mode? If so, can the customer follow the I2C spec with 1uS rise/fall times?

Thanks!
