Hi,

The MSP430 microcontroller inside EV2400 EVM interface board got burnt due to accidental short of +15V supply to one of the pins on the exposed port 5 connector.

The MCU P/N on EV2400 is MSP430F5529IPN. This costs only USD 7 in Digikey while it costs USD 200 to buy a new EV2400.

Is it possible that we buy MSP430F5529IPN and solder it in the board and then we flash it's firmware?

Is a bootloader required and will it be provided?

Yes. You can find a new one to replace and flash FW by EV2400 FW updater w/o any bootloader.

I did the same thing before.

Correct one thing. You cannot leverage EV2400 FW updater on TI.com directly because there is no FW in new MCU.

Please refer to section 5 of this document www.ti.com/.../slaa452c.pdf
Download (MSP430USBDEVPACK) and flash former FW. And then you can use FW updater to flash latest one

Hi Skate,

We had burnt the micro-controller by shorting one of the pins with a high voltage line. We purchased a new MSP430 chip and soldered it on the PCB.

We followed the steps that Ake mentioned - go to section 5 of that document and it shows how to install a new firmware in MSP430 with USB interface as it already has an inbuilt bootloader.

Let me know if you are stuck at any step.

On the PCB, the PCB is EV2400's PCB ? I have been soldered new MSP430 on the EV2400 PCB.
What tools do you need to install Firmware? I have a MSP-FET430UIF.
Do you need a USB cable to install the Firmware?

Hi Skate.

Yes I am talking about the EV2400 PCB. Just solder a new MSP430 on the EV2400 board.

Use the same USB cable that you use to connect the EV2400 with the PC.

Download the USB debugger software for MSP430 from this link www.ti.com/.../swlicexportcontrol.tsp

Then you should see a similar screen as shown in the section 5 of the document. And you can download the .txt file sent by Ake and use it to flash the EV2400 firmware in the new MSP430 chip.

Add a better way to flash MSP430.

You can leverage -s option to utilize EV2400 updater. Pleae refer to the attachment bat file.
