LM5041: VCC current limit and REF current limit

Guru 29690 points
Part Number: LM5041

Hi Team,

Electrical Characteristics shows VCC current limit is 15mA(min) and REF current limit is 15mA(min) each.
Can I consider it as independent current limit value for each?
In other words, is it possible both VCC and REF output 15mA each? I assume thermal limitation isn't occured in this case.

Best Regards,
Yaita / Japan disty

  • Hi K. Yaita,

Thanks for your interest in LM5041. For the REF pin, please do not draw more than 10mA (see pin description for REF on page 3 of the datasheet:www.ti.com/.../sluub81b.pdf). For VCC, please do not draw more than 15mA. Please be aware that device thermal limitations may limit the usable current range on these pins.

The current limit of VCC and REF are not independent of each other. The output of the high voltage startup regulator that supplies these pins is internally limited to 15mA. Also please be aware that drawing current out of these pins will increase the power dissipation within the IC package and the IC will likely run hotter.

    Best Regards,
    Ben Lough
