TPS65150: TPS65150 output voltages.

Part Number: TPS65150
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61169, TPS65142

Requirement: TPS65150 is required to interface 7 inch LCD display. This LCD requires following voltages:

1. LED driver: Typical 9.3V (Range 8.4V to 10.2V) current required 160mA.

2. AVDD: Typical 10.4V (Range 10.2V to 10.6V).

3. VGH: Typical 16V (Range 15.3V to 16.7V)

4. VGL: Typical –7.0V (Range –7.7V to –6.3V)

5. VCOM: Typical 4V (Range 3.8V to 4.2V)

Use of TPS65150: Please confirm following connections,

1. LED driver by using Boost Converter (VS).

2. AVDD by using positive charge pump (CPI).

3. VGH by using Gate Voltage Shaping (VGH).

4. VGL by using Negative Charge Pump (VGL).

5. VCOM by using VCOM buffer (VCOM).

Here for VS, CPI and VGL, voltage is output is controlled by resistor divider circuit. But for VGH and VOM resistor divider arrangement is not given.

Also Can we take VGH and CPI output at a time? Please give the feedback.

  • Hello Sandeep,

Thanks for your request. What are the output current requirements for AVDD, VGH, VGL?

    Best Regards.

  • Thanks!
For AVDD: Typical current 20mA. Max current 50mA.
For VGH and VGL: Typical current 0.2mA. Max current 1mA.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Sandeep
  • Hello Sandeep,

Thanks for the information. Your considerations for VCOM and VGL are correct but I see difficulties for the other rails.

VGH and CPI are basically the same output voltage only isolated by an internal transistor that is controlled by the CTRL-pin. I do not see a possibility that you can get VGH on the VGH-pin but configuring CPI for AVDD-voltage. The spread of the rds(on) of the internal isolation FET is to much (between 12 Ohm and 30 Ohm) to enable a controlled dropout.

Also be aware that the output CPI is dependent of the output voltage on SUP-pin (which is in your case the LED driver output of 9.3 V). Taking the tolerances into account you are at the edge of what the charge pump for CPI can provide.

What I can suggest to do instead:

    • AVDD -- use Boost Converter (VS), VGH -- use CPI charge pump (or VGH, if GVS is required), VGL and VCOM as suggested, TPS61169 (or an other standalone LED driver) to generate output for LED Driver
    • Use TPS65142

    Best Regards.

  • Thanks for your reply!

I am searching for low cost option. Is it possible to have all LCD voltages (AVDD, VGL, VGH, VCOM) and LED backlight in a single chip?

    Thanks & Regards,

    Sandeep

  • Hello Sandeep,

What is the input voltage for your application? Take a look at the TPS65142. this device has LCD Bias and the LED driver integrated.

If this answers your question please help and click on 'This answers my issue.'.
    Thank you.
    Best Regards.
