Hi,

I'm designing a PCB with the led driver TPS92551. I'm going to control the intensity wth a PWM signal.

I would like to protect the power led input and the PWM signal. I'm going to place a bi-directional TVS diode [1KSMB75CA: TVS DIODE 64.1VWM 103VC SMD] to protect the power input, but What do you recommend to me to protect the PWM input signal?

Putting a 10k resistor in series with the pin and placed close to the device is generally plenty of protection since the DIM pin is already internally ESD protected. But if there is a concern that the resistor will not be enough you could add a low voltage bi-directional TVS to that pin as well as the resistor.

Hi Clinton,

I'm going to use a resistor with this feature: Pulse Withstanding and a TVS from Wurth Elektronik 824021:

I attached you my final design. I think the resistor of 10k has to be placed after the TVS diode and close to the TPS92551, isn't it? I'm using two resistors one per IC, am I right?

Yes, that is the way I would do it. I would also place the resistors close to the ICs. I got the request with your e-mail so I'll send the step model I have for it. I tried attaching it here but .stp is not an acceptable format to attach apparently.
